You can now use mobile phones and other devices on planes, says CAAP

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), fliers or people on board airplanes can now use their mobile phone, tablets and laptops while in airplanes.

No more need to peel yourself away from Plants Vs. Zombies 2.

When a friend of mine in the airline industry mentioned this to me, at first I didnt believe it, so I decided to google it and found the news article from the Philippine Star.

Memorandum Circular 52-13, which allows the conditional use of TPED, music player (MP3) and global system for mobile communication onboard aircraft (GSMOBA) on all commercial aircraft.

In the short form here is what you are allowed to do:

When Doors are open

Calls

Texts

Internet Surfing

DO NOT USE MOBILE DEVICES WHEN PLANE IS REFUELING. EVERYTHING MUST BE TURNED OFF!!!

When doors are closed

SMS and Internet Surfing only – NO Voice Calls – so put your mobile phone on Call Barring Mode. Well it might be easier just to put it in airplane mode, which automatically kills all wireless signals – since most people use the phones just for playing games, listening to music or taking selfies.

Other wise common courtesy again rules – listen to music with headphones on or games with silent mode.
